Latin American carrier group AviancaTaca aims to bring its different airlines under the Avianca brand in the first half of 2013.

This comes as it prepares for its official entry into Star Alliance on 21 June.

The merger between Avianca and Taca was finalised in 2010 but the group's airlines still operate under different brands.

AviancaTaca's chief operating officer Estuardo Ortiz says that the carrier also hopes to be able to operate all flights under a common airline code, AV, in the first half of 2013.

The company has signed an IT deal with Amadeus to roll out a common customer management system across its airlines to help integrate operations. The airline expects to begin consolidation of services in 2012, says Ortiz.

"The Amadeus project allows AviancaTaca's incorporation into Star Alliance and allows us to operate under a single commercial code," he adds.

The carrier expects to achieve about $214 million in synergies from the merger in 2013. About $120 million was achieved from February 2010 to December 2011, says Ortiz.
