Russian airframer Aviastar has completed post-assembly testing of the new Ilyushin Il-476 freighter.

On 29 January, the first prototype aircraft - a modified and re-engined version of the Il-76 - carried out the final flight at Aviastar's testing facility in Ulyanovsk.

It was airborne for 4h 25min and reached an altitude of 32,800ft (10,000m). The crew checked out engine and systems functionality as well as performing exercises to retract and extend the landing gear.

The aircraft has now been handed over to the Flight Test Institute in Zhukovsky for certification trials.

Aviastar says it has three Il-476s under construction, of which one is at the final assembly stage.
