AVIC has confirmed a deal with Joy Air for up to 60 Xian Aircraft MA60 turboprops, following widespread reports on 1 August about the sale.
In a statement on its website, AVIC stressed the importance of China’s aircraft industry, calling it an element in the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”
The Joy Air deal comprises firm orders for 30 MA60s and a letter of intent for a further 30.
Joy Air is owned by AVIC Group and China Eastern Airlines. Started in 2009, the only type the carrier operates is the MA60, using it on scheduled domestic services from Xian, and providing connections with China Eastern’s network.
Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows that Joy Air has seven MA60s in service and one in storage. Globally, there are 55 MA60s in service and 24 in storage.
