Freight operator Avient is to take delivery of a second Boeing MD-11 tomorrow, two months after losing its first, newly-delivered example in an accident at Shanghai.

The carrier says it is to put the tri-jet, registered Z-BVT, into operation to support relief efforts following the earthquake in Haiti.

Avient has not disclosed further information over the loss of its first MD-11, which crashed on departure from Shanghai Pudong on 28 November just a week after delivery. The company's fleet also includes McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 freighters.
