Iceland’s Avion Aircraft Trading has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine to power the eight Airbus A330-220 freighters it has on order.

The order represents the second selection of the Trent 700 for the A330F following lessor Guggenheim Aviation Partners’ decision to fit the powerplant on up to six of its own aircraft.

Deliveries of the A330Fs to Reykjavik-based Avion are scheduled to begin in 2010. Four of the jets are due to be leased to Icelandair Cargo.

Rolls-Royce values the engine order at around $300 million at catalogue prices.

It will offer Avion’s customers for the A330F a long-term TotalCare maintenance package whereby the engine manufacturer will assume responsibility for powerplant management.
