Lessor Avolon has firmed an order for 20 Airbus A320neo, increasing its original commitment to the type by five.

Avolon had disclosed in July 2012 an initial commitment to acquire 15 A320neo twinjets.

Airbus says it has firmed the order, and increased it, but the lessor has yet to select a powerplant for the aircraft.

"Our increased commitment to the [A320neo] reflects the strong customer feedback we have received since our original announcement," says Avolon president John Higgins.

Airbus has yet to update its A320neo order status but recent firmed agreements would provisionally put the overall backlog close to 1,700 aircraft.
