Avolon picks CFM56 for A320s

Irish-based lessor Avolon hase selected CFM International CFM56 engines to power its new Airbus A320 aircraft fleet.

The Dublin company placed an order for eight aircraft, with fuel saving sharklets, in December 2010. All eight aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2014.

Avolon has further expanded its Airbus A320 portfolio with the addition of more from Air Berlin, Philippine Airlines as well as AerCap and AerVenture.

In January this year it acquired two new A320s equipped with CFM56 engines from Alitalia under a purchase and leaseback transaction.

The leasing company also has 12 Boeing 737 aircraft on backlog with deliveries planned between 2012 and 2014.
