Operating lessor AWAS has purchased two narrowbody aircraft with lease attached to Mexican carrier Volaris and Fiji's Air Pacific.

The announcement follows the sale last week of a Boeing 737-800 by SMBC Aviation Capital to an unnamed leasing company in Ireland. The aircraft (MSN 37754) was built in 2010 and was leased to Air Pacific in 2011, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database.

The other aircraft, an Airbus A320 (MSN 3672), was built in 2008 and is on lease to Volaris until 2016, Ascend data shows.

AWAS says Volaris becomes a new customer through the acquisition.

"We are very pleased to be able to finalise this acquisition which is part of our long-term strategy to utilise the secondary market as an active growth channel for our platform," says AWAS head of trading, Carter White.
