Operating lessor AWAS has closed the first of two new Boeing 737-800 purchase and leaseback transaction with Ethiopian Airlines.

The aircraft (MSN 40966) will be followed by another 737-800 delivery to the flag carrier of Ethiopia in 2014.

Ethiopian mandated the lessor last month.

AWAS's chief commercial officer Martin Dailey says: "We actively use our ability to offer purchase and leasebacks as a fleet solution tool, which in combination with our new order and diverse portfolio of over 250 aircraft, offers airlines a broader array of options for efficient growth."
