Azerbaijan Airlines is seeking authority to serve the USA with a new flight between Baku and New York JFK International airport.
The carrier plans to operate Airbus A340-500 aircraft on the route but could use Boeing 787-8 aircraft in the future, it says in a regulatory filing on 10 February.
Azerbaijan could begin service as soon as it is granted a foreign air carrier permit to fly to the USA, according to its application. Flights will begin no later than the fourth quarter.
The airline operates two A340-500s and has orders for two 787-8s, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows. It also flies three Boeing 767-300ERs.
No carriers fly between Baku and JFK, Innovata schedules show.
