Brazilian low-cost carrier Azul has signed its first interline agreement with Star Alliance carrier TAP Portugal.
Under the agreement, TAP will be able to sell tickets for the more than 100 destinations served by Azul in Brazil. TAP operates to 10 destinations in Brazil, including Azul's hub at Campinas-Viracopos.
The interline agreement is the first signed by Azul, which has not partnered with other carriers.
While Azul has not expressed any desire to join a global airline alliance, there is speculation that Star Alliance could be interested in partnering with the airline as it will lose Brazil's TAM to Oneworld in 2014. Avianca Brazil has said it aims to be part of the alliance in 2014, joining its sister airline, Bogota-based Avianca.
