Brazil's Azul has receive approvals to launch service between Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont from 8 May.
The carrier says it has received authorisation to operate thrice daily on the route, and is awaiting the green light for a fourth daily frequency.
Azul will operate Embraer 190 aircraft, configured with 106 seats, between the two cities.
The airline will provide competition on a route already heavily served by TAM and Gol, and to a lesser extent, Avianca Brazil. The three airlines offer a combined 105 weekly flights between the two cities, schedules in Innovata show.
