British Airways is attributing the return of an Airbus A319 to London Heathrow, and its subsequent evacuation, to a technical issue.
The aircraft, operating flight BA762 to Oslo, was transporting 75 passengers, the carrier says.
BA says the A319 returned to Heathrow as the result of a "technical fault". Images show damage to the left-hand engine, its cowls apparently missing, while video footage indicates vapour was streaming from the right-hand engine during its approach.
"The aircraft landed safely and emergency slides were deployed and we are currently caring for our customers," says the carrier. "We will be carrying out a full investigation into the incident."
