British Airways' regional CityFlyer operation is recruiting cadets for a multi-crew pilot licence (MPL) course in a tie-up with Spanish partner FTEJerez.

In its recruitment campaign CityFlyer says the new venture marks the first time that it has sought cadet pilots.

Successful candidates for the mentored programme will be trained for 54 weeks through a European integrated MPL course and - in the final phase - undertake a CityFlyer-funded type rating course to transition to the Embraer jet fleet.

"This course has been specifically designed to teach you all of the key elements necessary for you to successfully transition to a BA CityFlyer flight deck," says the carrier's flight operations director Carl Phelan.

Training begins in October and costs £82,000 ($127,000).

CityFlyer operates both Embraer 170s and 190s from its base at London City. Training organisation FTEJerez, based in southern Spain, emerged from a relocation and management buy-out of the former British Aerospace Flying College.
