BAA airports report 4.4% growth in passengers in 2011

UK airports operator BAA saw its total passenger numbers increase by 4.4% in 2011, including a 5.5% improvement in passenger numbers at London Heathrow to 69.4 million.

London Stansted's passenger numbers fell 2.8% to 18 million in the 12-month period ending 31 December.

Passenger numbers at BAA's Scottish airports increased by 8.1% in 2011, including a 9.2% rise at Edinburgh Airport which BAA has opted to sell.

Air transport movements across BAA's UK airports increased by 3.8%, including a 6% increase at Heathrow and a 4.5% decline at Stansted.

The greatest increase in passenger numbers across BAA's airports was on North Atlantic flights, with domestic flights seeing the smallest growth.
