FlyDubai will begin four times weekly flights to the southern Iraqi city of Basra on 8 August.

The low-cost carrier already operates services to four other Iraqi cities - Baghdad, Najaf, Sulaymaniyah and Erbil.

Commenting on the new Basra route, chief executive Ghaith Al Ghaith describes Iraq as one of FlyDubai's "principal markets".

Trade between the two countries was valued at $4.5 billion in 2011.
