Berlin's Schönefeld and Tegel airports handed just short of 20 million passengers over the first nine months of the year, a 4% increase on the same stage last year.

The figures show passengers numbers up 8% to 14.77 million at Berlin Tegel airport between January and September. Passenger numbers were down 7% to 5.05 million at Schonefeld.

"The growth in passenger numbers is primarily due to the two airlines, Air Berlin and EasyJet. The former carried 9% more passengers through Tegel during the first nine months, while the UK carrier increased passenger levels 10% at Schonefeld.
