BMI has added its code to transatlantic services operated by Star Alliance partner Continental Airlines.

The codeshare agreement applies to Continental flights from London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Brussels to Newark New York and Houston George Bush Intercontinental.

The agreement allows Continental to sell tickets on BMI services connecting through the same UK airports plus Belfast and Amman.

Additional routes are to be added to the codeshare arrangement before the end of the year. "Starting with Newark and Houston, we hope to extend our collaboration with Continental to other destinations in the Americas," says BMI sales and marketing director Katherine Gershon.

Continental joined the Star Alliance last week, after an 18-month transition from the SkyTeam alliance.
