UK Star Alliance carrier BMI has fixed a date to open its new route to the Israeli capital Tel Aviv and will begin the service on 13 March next year.

BMI will operate Airbus A320 aircraft on the route configured with 20 business-class and 108 economy-class seats.

It has started taking bookings for the service today. BMI will operate the route daily from London Heathrow.

Bilateral talks between the UK and Israel enabled BMI to secure designation as the second UK carrier, besides British Airways, to be granted approval to conduct Israeli services.

Chief executive Nigel Turner describes Tel Aviv as a “key destination” in the Middle East. The airline has recently expanded its Middle Eastern network through the acquisition of former British Airways franchise partner BMed.

Tel Aviv will bring the number of destinations BMI serves from Heathrow to 41 next year.
