Lufthansa and BMI Regional have signed a codeshare agreement covering routes operated by the German carrier from its bases at Frankfurt and Munich.

Under the agreement BMI Regional will be able to place its code on flights to more than 200 destinations Lufthansa operates from Munich and Frankfurt to which BMI Regional operates to from Bristol.

BMI Regional chief executive Cathal O’Connell said the agreement, which comes into force today, could herald further co-operation with Lufthansa and other European carriers.

The UK-based airline signed its first codeshare as an independent carrier a week ago when it agreed to codeshare on its new Newcastle-Brussels route with Brussels Airlines.
