Boeing has completed the assembly of its first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft forward fuselage.

The 89ft, 2in (27.2m) fuselage section, features the aircraft's signature upper deck, which was moved from the assembly tool for sealing and testing before beginning systems installation.

The aircraft's new fuselage is 18ft, 4in (5.6m) longer than its predecessor. The bulk of the stretch, 13ft, 4in (4.1m), is located in the forward fuselage. The remaining 5ft (1.5m) is located near the aircraft's wing section.

The 747-8I's stretched fuselage offers 51 additional seats to accommodate 467 passengers in a typical three-class configuration and 26% increased cargo volume, says Boeing.
