Installation of new GEnx-2B engines is complete on the first Boeing 747-8 freighter, advancing the process of bringing the aircraft to market.

The GEnx-2B recently completed the first phase of flight testing on the GE 747 flying testbed, and on 17 August Boeing completed the first power on of the 747-8 freighter.

The 747-8F engine is based on the GEnx-1B featured on the 787. The -2B derivative offers 65,000lb of thrust.

Boeing aims to complete first flight of the 747-8F during the fourth quarter, with first delivery to Cargolux targeted for the third quarter of 2010. The airframer has secured 78 orders for the aircraft.
