Boeing has started assembling its first 747-8I aircraft at its Everett factory in Washington state.

The manufacturer loaded the aircraft's wing panels and spars in the assembly tools.

Lufthansa, the first airline to order the new aircraft, has a firm order for 20 747-8 passenger aircraft, with purchase rights for an additional 20.
