Brisbane airport passenger numbers up 4.5% in 2012

Brisbane airport's passenger numbers increased by 4.5% to more than 21.5 million in 2012, compared with the same period in 2011.

Its domestic passenger numbers rose by 5%, with January figures showing the greatest passenger growth of 144,800 for the year.

The greatest capacity growth was seen in October, with over 250,000 seats added. The highest recorded load factors were on fights between Brisbane and Perth, and Brisbane and Proserpine, with seat occupancy averaging at 84% and 79% respectively.

Its international passenger numbers increased by 1.4% year on year, despite a slight decrease in seat capacity and flight frequency throughout the year.

The number of passengers from China grew by 19.2% year on year, while those from India were up by 9%.

The busiest day was on 8 January, with 16,916 arrivals and departures recorded.
