Oneworld alliance member British Airways has sealed an extensive codeshare agreement with future Oneworld partner Malev Hungarian Airlines.
From 1 November the two airlines will begin codesharing on one another’s trunk flights between London and Budapest, as well as on routes to several destinations beyond.
BA will place its designator on Malev’s twice-daily service to London Gatwick in addition to flights from Budapest to Constanta, Larnaca, Sarajevo, Timisoara, Tirana and Varna.
In turn Malev’s code will be carried on BA’s thrice-daily London Heathrow-Budapest operation and services from Gatwick to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle.
BA and Malev detailed the agreement during a Oneworld event in Paris at which Japan Airlines formally accepted an invitation to join the alliance.
“This agreement is an important milestone towards our Oneworld membership,” says Malev chief executive Janos Gonci.
Malev is expected to join the alliance in early 2007.
