Bulgarian carrier BH Air is negotiating to lease long-haul Airbus jets as it seeks to open transatlantic routes to US gateways.
The private airline is intending to begin scheduled services from Sofia to Chicago O'Hare and New York JFK.
In a formal submission to US regulators the carrier states that it plans thrice-weekly services.
BH Air managing director Ianko Ivanov says the airline is "in negotiations" to dry-lease Airbus A330 and A340 jets.
The carrier's fleet comprises only smaller types: six Airbus A320s and a single A319, as well as a couple of Gulfstream executive jets.
Ivanov says the long-haul Airbuses would join the fleet at a "later stage".
