Canadian training equipment and services provider CAE and the Brunei Economic Development Board have signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a multipurpose training centre.

The facility, to be located in Rimba, Brunei, will provide modelling and simulation technology training to customers in three key segments - oil and gas, emergency crisis management and defence, said CAE at the Singapore air show.

The first phase of the project will include the development of the region's largest helicopter simulator training facility for both the civil and military segments. The aim is to position Brunei as a leading helicopter training hub in Southeast Asia.

The project is estimated to cost $80 million.
