Canadian training equipment and services provider CAE has forged an agreement with Virgin America to develop a new pilot training centre near the carrier's San Francisco headquarters.

CAE plans to install one of its owned A320 level D full flight simulators (FFS) at the site, and will market available simulator time to other operators at the San Francisco facility. CAE expects the simulator to be available for training later this year. Virgin America will also have access to additional A320 simulators at other CAE training sites in North America and the Airbus training facility in Miami.

At the same time, China Southern Airlines and CAE, as part of their Zhuhai joint venture aviation training centre expansion, will add two level D FFSs, a CAE 5000 series for the Next Generation Boeing 737 and a CAE 3000 series for the Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter.

The Zhuhai expansion will also include CAE's Simfinity integrated procedures trainers (IPTs) for the 737NG and S-76C++ and a helicopter Simfinity Virtual Simulator (VSIM), says CAE.

The VSIM, S-76C++ FFS and IPT will allow training for common S-76 variants including S-76A, S-76A++, S-76C+ and S-76C++. The FFSs, IPTs and VSIM will be ready for training in 2012, says CAE.
