Montreal-based simulation specialist CAE will open an airline training centre at Barcelona El Prat airport this summer.
The facility will initially house an Airbus A320 simulator and will be largely used by locally-based budget carrier Vueling.
The two companies have signed a seven-year partnership agreement, whereby the airline is to become the facility's "anchor customer" for flight and cabin crew training, CAE says.
However, the centre will also be open to other customers and has space for four simulators in anticipation of future expansion, CAE adds.
Training is to begin in the middle of the year, with the facility becoming CAE's third location in Spain.
The company has thus far used a base in Madrid to train Vueling A320 crews, while it has a simulator facility for current-generation Boeing 737 aircraft in Palma de Mallorca which is used by Air Europa.
Separately, Spanish technology company Indra is also building an A320 simulator centre near Barcelona El Prat airport. That facility will be completed by the end of 2012 and may be expanded for other types in the future.
