China Airlines’ (CAL) operating profit for the quarter ended 31 March 2014 fell by 14% to NT$1.67 billion ($55.3 million) as operating costs at the Skyteam carrier grew.
Revenue for the quarter increased by 6.6% to NT$35.2 billion, outpaced by a 14% rise in operating costs to NT$1.67 billion.
Net loss for the quarter amounted to NT$2.73 billion, compared to a net loss of NT$1 billion for the prior corresponding period.
Despite the large net loss, CAL’s cash position at the end of the period improved by NT$205 million to NT$19.2 billion in cash and cash equivalents.
The airline took delivery of one Boeing 737-800 during the three months, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online Fleets database shows.
