Total passenger traffic at Cambodia airports increased by 18.9% to 283,000 in May, up from the previous year.

Passenger numbers at Phnom Penh International Airport rose by 15.5% to 156,000, while throughput at Siem Reap International Airport increased by 22.8% to 127,000.

Aircraft movements at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airport rose by 3.9% to 1,800 and 8.7% to 1,790 respectively. Cargo throughput at both airports surged by 58.8% to 2,250t, returning to pre-crisis levels.

Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international airports are expecting passenger numbers to exceed 2 million in 2012.

To accommodate the steady increases, Cambodia Airports, the developer and operator of the international airports, will launch a comprehensive expansion programme to double the capacities of the two airports to handle 4 million passengers by the end of this year.

Cambodia airports include Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanouk International Airport.
