US carrier Cape Air will launch service between St Croix, US Virgin Islands and Vieques, Puerto Rico from 1 July.

The airline will operate daily on the route.

Previously, the service, which ran from 11 December 2011 through 7 May, was slated to be seasonal only.

The decision to connect the two islands with daily flight service on a year-round basis was made after consideration of customer feedback, as well as requests from government and tourism leaders on St Croix and Vieques, says the airline.

Seaborne Airlines operates nonstop flights from St Croix to Vieques, schedules in Innovata show.
