European freight carrier Cargolux launched its new service to Zhengzhou in China on 15 June after securing the necessary permits to operate the route, nearly two months later than it originally hoped.

The Luxembourg-based airline had intended to start flights to Zhengzhou on 24 April, but China’s civil aviation authority did not approve the services due to unforeseen procedural changes in the submission and approval of information. It later targeted a mid-June start and carried out its first flight on the route with a Boeing 747-8 freighter yesterday.

The airline will initially operate the flights twice weekly, adding two more frequencies next month and a further two in September.
