Cargolux is in discussions with Boeing over its contract to acquire 747-8 freighters, although the airline remains committed to taking the jets.

The talks, which Cargolux says are "pursuant to our purchase contract", follow the latest delay in the delivery of the 747-8F, for which the carrier is a launch customer. Delivery has slipped to mid-2011.

A senior official at the cargo airline declines to comment on whether these discussions focus on agreeing a lower price for aircraft.

But he says: "Cargolux is working on additional aircraft to cover the delay and our preference is the 747-400. Our target is to have such capacity early 2011."

He confirms that Cargolux is still intending to acquire 13 747-8Fs.
