Luxembourg-based freight specialist Cargolux has formally accepted its third Boeing 747-8F, an aircraft originally due for delivery late last year.

The airline is to fly the jet (LX-VCC) from Boeing's facility in Seattle to its Luxembourg base.

Cargolux has nine 747-400Fs and three 747-400BCFs in its fleet - along with its two other 747-8Fs - but says it plans to phase out the leased -400BCF fleet by the end of this year.

It had taken on the -400BCFs to plug a capacity gap after programme delays pushed back delivery of the new type.
