Cathay Pacific Airways has reached a tentative agreement for Boeing 747-8 freighter support from Chinese maintenance firm Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO).
HAECO will provide long-term inventory technical management for the 10 aircraft which are scheduled for delivery over 2011-13.
The company says the agreement, currently the subject of a letter of intent, will include comprehensive aircraft-on-ground support, technical service and asset management.
Cathay Pacific and HAECO will seal a full contract before the 747-8F's entry into service.
"The agreement allows certain time-critical activities - such as inventory provisioning - to take place in parallel with the final stages of aircraft commissioning," adds HAECO.
Cathay Pacific will also help the maintenance company reach partnerships with original equipment manufacturers, and HAECO says it is aiming to build on the agreement to capture additional third-party business on the 747-8.
