Commonwealth Bank of Australia has purchased a new Airbus A320 aircraft from UK budget carrier EasyJet.

The bank, which confirms the transaction, established a special purpose company CBA A320 5638 for the acquisition of the aircraft (MSN 5638) under a purchase and leaseback transaction.

According to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database the aircraft is being leased back to EasyJet for a period of eight years.

The acquisition follows the purchase and leasebacks of two more A320s (MSNs 5249 and 5289) earlier this year.

The aircraft is part of a request for proposals covering up to 12 new A320s issued in 2012.

Santander acquired four new A320s from the UK carrier and arranged a Spanish operating lease transaction covering the aircraft. Banc of America Leasing closed two new deliveries, while Commonwealth Bank of Australia has now acquired three A320s.
