China Eastern passenger traffic down 2% in January

China Eastern Airlines has posted a decline of 2% year on year in passenger traffic as measured in RPKs for January.

Its passenger capacity as measured in ASKs grew by 1.7%, while passenger numbers decreased by 2.4% to 5.69 million.

The carrier's passenger load factor fell by 2.8 percentage points to 75.6%.

On domestic routes, the carrier's passenger traffic decreased by 1.9% and capacity increased by 2.9%.

On international routes, its passenger traffic decreased by 0.6%, while capacity increased by 0.8%.

On regional routes, the airline's passenger traffic decreased by 12%, while capacity fell by 11%.

The amount of cargo carried by the airline grew by 21% to 118,000t.
