China Eastern posts Q1 2013 net loss of CNY132m

China Eastern Airlines has recorded an attributable net loss of yuan (CNY) 132 million ($21.4 million) in the first quarter of 2013, compared with a net profit of CNY267 million a year ago.

For the period ended 31 March, its total revenue increased by 7% to CNY20.7 billion, while total operating costs increased by 9.4% to CNY21.4 billion for the quarter, China Eastern said in a filing on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Its operating loss, meanwhile, widened to CNY725 million from CNY196 million, the airline adds.

In 2012, China Eastern Airlines' full-year net profit declined by 39% to CNY2.81 billion.
