China Eastern traffic grows 22% in February

China Eastern Airlines has posted a 22% growth in passenger traffic in February.

Domestic RPKs rose 11%, international RPKs were up 59% and regional RPKs grew 23%, says the Shanghai-based carrier.

The total number of passengers increased 15% to 3.7 million, Domestic passenger numbers rose 10% to 3.1 million, international passenger numbers rose 52% to 454,630, while regional passenger numbers jumped 26% to 174,950.

Capacity, as measured in ASKs, rose 17%, says China Eastern. Domestic capacity grew 12%, international capacity rose 29% and regional capacity increased 8%.

The overall passenger load factor grew 3.4 percentage points to 75.6%. The domestic passenger load factor rose 0.8 percentage points to 76.4%, the international load factor was up 14 percentage points to 74.1%, and the regional passenger load factor grew 9% to 73.2%.

On the cargo front, revenue freight tonne kilometres (RFTKs) grew 41%, says the airline. The total amount of cargo carried decreased 27% to 73,790t, it adds.
