China Southern passenger traffic up 11% in March

China Southern Airlines has reported an 11% year-on-year growth in its overall March passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs.

Its domestic RPKs rose by 6.7%, regional RPKs grew by 30.7% and international RPKs increased by 31.1%, says the SkyTeam carrier.

The total number of passengers carried by the airline rose by 7.2% to 6.83 million. Its domestic passenger numbers grew by 6.2% to 6.12 million. Regional passenger numbers increased by 15.3% to 161,000 and international passengers rose by 17.5% to 552,000.

Its overall capacity, as measured in ASKs, rose by 13.2%. Its domestic capacity increased by 9.1%, regional capacity rose by 38.8% and international capacity grew by 29.6%, says China Southern.

Its overall passenger load factor declined by 1.6 percentage points to 79.1%. Its domestic passenger load factor declined by 1.8 percentage points to 80.7%, while its regional load factor fell by 4.4 percentage points to 71.1% and the international passenger load factor moved up by 0.9 percentage points to 73.6%.

China Southern's overall revenue freight tonne kilometres grew by 24.7% and its total amount of cargo carried rose by 9% to 106,000t. Its revenue tonne kilometres increased by 14.5% while the overall load factor fell by 0.7 percentage points to 70.4% in March, adds the airline.
