China Southern passenger traffic up 11% in May

China Southern Airlines's passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 10.8% year on year in May.

Domestic traffic figures for the month increased by 10.4%, while regional traffic fell by 9% and international traffic went up by 15%, says the SkyTeam alliance member.

The airline's overall capacity, as measured in ASKs, grew by 9.1%. Its domestic capacity increased by 9.2%, while regional capacity decreased by 2.1% and international capacity increased by 10.1%.

Total number of passengers carried by the airline increased by 7.1% to 7.37 million. The carrier's domestic passenger numbers increased by 7.8% to 6.64 million. Its regional passenger numbers went down by 6.6% to 156,000 and international passenger numbers grew by 3.8% to 579,000.

China Southern's overall passenger load factor during the month increased by 1.2 percentage points to 78.5%. Its domestic passenger load factor went up by 0.8 percentage points to 80.1%, while its regional load factor fell by 4.9 percentage points to 65.1% and international passenger load factor increased by 3.2 percentage points to 73.6%.
