China Southern Airlines has set up a branch office in Shanghai, as part of the company’s strategic focus on the Yangtze River Delta region.
The carrier says Shanghai is in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, with Shanghai Pudong International airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International airport serving a combined 82.8 million passengers in 2013. The carrier expects the figure to hit 90 million by 2015.
China Southern made Shanghai a base in 2007. The carrier currently has 38 aircraft based in Shanghai, operating services to over 30 domestic and international destinations. In 2013, the carrier handled over 7 million passengers at its Shanghai base.
China Southern also has six Boeing 777Fs based in Shanghai, and expects to introduce more of these freighters between 2015 and 2017.
