China Southern Airlines and Spring Airlines have filed applications with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to start new international services.
China Southern intends to start weekly Shenzhen-Seoul and thrice weekly Shenyang-Wuhan-Phuket services from as early as this month.
Spring Airlines plans to begin a twice weekly Shanghai Pudong-Chiang Mai service starting January 2014.
Both carriers will use Airbus A320 family aircraft on the routes, says the CAAC.
Innovata schedules show that China Southern will be the only operator on the Wuhan-Phuket route and it will compete with Asiana Airlines, Korean Air and Shenzhen Airlines on the Shenzhen-Seoul route. Spring Airlines will compete with Juneyao Airlines on the Shanghai Pudong-Chiang Mai route.
