China Southern has taken delivery of the first Boeing 777-300ER with Thales’ fourth-generation TopSeries Avant in-flight entertainment (IFE) system.
The aircraft will enter service on 2 March on flights between Guangzhou and Shanghai. China Southern will install the system on 10 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that will enter service between 2014 and 2016.
The Android-based IFE system is configured in a multiple-screen layout in business class as well as a single touch screens in economy class. Avant includes on-demand movies, three-dimensional maps, games, books, shopping services and e-books.
“These aircraft play a crucial role in our international growth strategy and being the launch customer for the Avant system is an important move for us to offer an advanced experience to our passengers,” says Zhang Zifang, China Southern’s chief operating officer.
China Southern also has an earlier version of Thales' Avant system on its Airbus A330 aircraft.
