Hainan Airlines (HNA) Group, parent company of China's fourth largest carrier, is considering seeking a cash injection from its major shareholder, the Hainan provincial government.

HNA is considering approaching the Hainan Government for a cash injection, Hainan Airlines says in a statement.

The statement was issued after local reports suggested that government aid to the airline was imminent.

Hainan Airlines is China's fourth largest carrier but has been losing money at a time when it has a large number of aircraft on order and is wishing to expand internationally.

China Southern Airlines recently gained a cash injection from the national government and China Eastern Airlines is also seeking cash from the national government.
