A group of Chinese companies have applied to start a cargo airline based in Ningxia, in the country's Northwest region.

The investors include a Shanghai-based freight forward agency, and logistics firms in Shaanxi and Anhui provinces which border Ningxia. They plan to put in yuan (CNY) 600 million ($95.2 million) into the venture.

The airline will be based at Yinchuan Hedong airport and have six aircraft, including Boeing 737 and 747 freighters, says the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in a statement.
