Chinese airframer Comac has signed a cooperation agreement with US aluminium producer Alcoa Fastening Systems for its C919 narrowbody programme.

Under the deal, the two firms will work together on the technical support for the aircraft's fastening system and also the fasteners' technical specifications, says Comac.

Alcoa had earlier said that it was cooperating with Comac and looking at advanced aluminium structural concepts, design and alloys to make the C919 a competitive aircraft.

Alcoa is also a supplier for Comac's ARJ21 regional jet programme. It is supplying materials for the aircraft in three categories - heat-treated alloys for the airframe, extrusions for the wing, fuselage stringers, floor beams, and seat tracks and fasteners for the engines.
