German leisure carrier Condor will operate seasonal flights from Cologne to Varadero in Cuba during the winter 2014/2015 schedule.

Starting on 4 November, the route will be served once-weekly with a Boeing 767-300, says the airline, which is a subsidiary of UK tour operator Thomas Cook.

It will be the carrier’s lone long-haul route at Cologne/Bonn.

The airport serves around 20 million inhabitants of western Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, a region that should generate sufficient demand for a long-haul route, says Condor chief executive Ralf Teckentrup.
