Future Star alliance member Continental Airlines will connect its Houston hub with Canada's Edmonton International airport from 1 November, pending government approval.

The single daily roundtrip flight to the oil- and gas-rich area would mark Continental's 11th Canadian destination and the fourth Canadian city served by the carrier from Houston.

Continental will use Boeing 737-500 aircraft on the city pair, which is presently un-served with non-stop service, according to Innovata.

The new route will begin after the airline swaps alliances in October, severing ties with the SkyTeam alliance on the 24th to join Star on 27th of that month.
